What Type of Dumpster Do I Need?

September 24th, 2009 by The bookadumpster.com USA Dumpster Rental Team

The most commonly asked question when looking to order a dumpster online is “What type of dumpster will I need?”

Here is a bit of guidance if you are unsure:

Which waste types are serviced?
Household Debris, Clean Construction Debris, Clean Concrete, Stump and Brush.

What is Household Debris?
Light comingle waste from a house hold cleanup. DO NOT PUT: Bricks, concrete, food waste, asbestos, hazardous waste, chemicals, insulation materials, liquids, gas bottles, tires, mattresses, computer monitors or hard drives, or any electrical equipment with plugs.

What is Clean Construction Debris?
Wood, Plaster, Insulation, Styrofoam, Tiles, Shingle, Ceramic Goods, Sheet Rock/Drywall.

What is Clean Concrete?
Concrete ONLY. DO NOT PUT: Anything other than clean concrete in this receptacle. NO bricks, asphalt or ceramics.

What is Stump and Brush?
Tree stumps and branches.

(Please note this is a basic guide, some Haulers may not service all of these waste types)

What can I put in my dumpster?
Dumpsters can be used for general waste which is typically anything involved with a general cleanup around the house and property that is neither liquid nor of a hazardous nature.

What can’t go in the dumpster?
Hazardous waste cannot be placed in the dumpster. This includes TV’s, monitors, fridges, paints, solvents, liquids or any asbestos. To dispose of any of these materials you need to contact your local government. They will be able to provide you with a contact who can dispose of anything hazardous or not accepted in your dumpster (i.e. food waste).

How high can I fill the dumpster?
Dumpsters can be filled level to the top, except for the Clean Concrete waste type. This dumpster must not be filled any further than half way due to weight restrictions. (Haulers face prosecution for unsafe or overweight loads).

What if I have two different waste types? Can I mix them?
The only dumpster in which you may mix more than one waste type is the Household Debris dumpster. If you are placing heavy waste in this dumpster there is a weight limit of 250 pounds per 1 cubic yard so you may be charged an extra weight fee if you fill over and above this limit. It is suggested that you order a small dumpster for each waste type you are disposing of rather than just one large one.

Weight, Type & Size FAQ’s!

November 30th, 2008 by The bookadumpster.com USA Dumpster Rental Team

How much weight can I put in the dumpster?
This depends on the size of the dumpster. During the order process you are told the weight limit for each different dumpster size.

How big will my dumpster be?
The dumpster’s size is measured in cubic yards. To get an idea of the dumpster size, view the scale drawing on our homepage at step 4 of the order process. 1 cubic yard is the equivalent of 1 yard wide by 1 yard long by 1 yard high. So a 6 yard dumpster has the capacity to hold 6 ‘cubic yards’.

Demolition Time!

August 14th, 2008 by The bookadumpster.com USA Dumpster Rental Team

If you are taking advantage of the last of the summer months by undertaking building additions, renovations or removals, you will be looking at ways to rid yourself of all the debris.

Hiring a Dumpster or Roll Off Container will be at the top of your “To Do” List.

What sort of Dumpster do you hire? Your choice of dumpsters includes:

Household Waste (which can be filled with light general waste from a clean up around the house), Stump and Brush (which is self explanatory) , Clean Concrete (strictly only for concrete) or Clean Construction Debris.

Clean Construction Debris is the correct dumpster for your job. You are able to put all your old wood, plaster, insulation, styrofoam, tiles, ceramics sheet rock and drywall in this receptacle.

What about Roofing Tiles/Shingles? The asphalt shingle is the most common type of roofing material used in both new home construction and re-roofing (up to 60% of the residential roofing market) you may be surprised at the weight of asphalt shingles. Even the cheapest grades of shingles weigh around 225 pounds per square (100 square feet) e.g.12 squares of roof area should weigh about 5400 pounds. That’s almost 3 tons! Haulers find that a dumpster full of shingles is very difficult to move; hence they request that you do not dispose of them in their dumpsters.

If you have shingles to dispose of the best thing to do is to contact your local county office and ask them what they suggest. Each county is different and they may have a recycling option available for you to take advantage of.
