Presidents Day - 16 February 2009

February 11th, 2009 by The bookadumpster.com USA Dumpster Rental Team

This holiday celebrates the birthday of two of the greatest presidents of USA, George Washington, who was born on Feb 22 and Abraham Lincoln, born on Feb 12th. Originally this holiday was referred to as Washington’s Birthday and was celebrated on the 22nd of February. However, Washington’s Birthday has been publicly celebrated since he was in office, before Abraham Lincoln was even born. Much of the debate over the name of the holiday springs from the fact that state’s can follow their own holidays how they see fit and many of them chose to also honor Lincoln, calling the celebration President’s Day. In 1968 the term President’s Day came up for consideration in Congress, but was not accepted, although the holiday was moved to fall between the two President’s birthdays. Again in the 1980’s there was a resurgence of the term with advertisers which solidified the holiday name in American culture. Today, few Americans prefer to call the holiday Washington’s Birthday in lieu of President’s Day.

Approximately a dozen state governments have officially renamed their Washington’s Birthday observances as “Presidents Day”, “Washington and Lincoln Day”, or other such designations. However, “Presidents Day” is not always an all-inclusive term.

In New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois, while Washington’s Birthday is a federal holiday, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is still a state holiday, falling on February 12 regardless of the day of the week.

Alabama uniquely observes the day as “Washington and Jefferson Day”, even though Jefferson’s birthday was in April.

In Massachusetts, while the state officially celebrates “Washington’s Birthday,” state law also prescribes that the governor issue an annual Presidents Day proclamation honoring the presidents that have come from Massachusetts.

In California, Lincoln’s Birthday is a legal state holiday; however, observance is frequently moved to the Monday or Friday occurring closest to February 12. When Lincoln’s Birthday is observed on the Friday preceding Washington’s Birthday, the resultant four-day weekend is commonly called “Presidents’ Day Weekend”, particularly by retailers in their sale advertisements.

In Washington’s home state of Virginia the holiday is legally known as “George Washington Day.”

So in conclusion this weekend should be a long vacation for many Americans. With the weather slowly improving it is nearly time to start the spring clean up. Trailer Trash…What Is It? Who Are They?

February 4th, 2009 by The bookadumpster.com USA Dumpster Rental Team

You often hear the term thrown about in conversation but what does it actually mean? Trailer trash (or trailer park trash) is a derogatory term for people of low socio-economic standing. (Close synonymn for poor white trash).

Because trailers often provide housing at a lower cost than conventional foundation-built house, there is a popular cultural conception that those who live in trailer parks are usually only those who are too poor to afford anything else. It originates from the belief that those of low standing within society often reside in trailers or mobile homes, especially in trailer parks.

How do you know if you are Trailer Trash? First of all you don’t need to live in a trailer to be trailer trash, and only a small percentage of people who actually do live in a trailer are considered trailer trash and their characteristics are… annoying, loud mouths, dirty houses and clothes, greasy hair, their kids are out of control, and/or just plain lazy.

Are you a person who seems well-suited to residential life in a mobile home park and is distinguished by poor hygiene, foul language, slovenly or slutty clothing, and general ignorance? Do your recreations include drinking malt liquor in lawn chairs under tattered R.V. awnings and teenage pregnancy?

Used in a sentence:

“Bambi acts like such trailer trash when she chugs malt liquor and belches.”
“It is so embarrassing hanging around her; she is straight up trailer trash. “
“She can clean it up, but underneath she’s still trailer trash.”

We here at bookadumpster don’t like to judge, we are happy to provide you with a dumpster to clean up your trailer, just enter your zip code at www.bookdumpster.com and once the dumpster has been delivered you are on your way to a whole new life!!!
